Jr. Athletics

Young athletes are full of energy waiting to be given the opportunity and the guidance to be GREAT. The journey for your young athletes starts at North Fork Karate’s  Jr Athletes  Program.

3 and 4 yr old. An energetic class geared to having fun  while learning to pay attention, take your turn, stay in line. In addition all the skill a young athlete needs to be a success in preschool, learning personal space and respect of others while still gaining physical skills , including balance and movement skills. Martial arts are a fun avenue to present many life skills.  When the young athletes reach 5 yr old they are moved to the next step, Little Dragons Class.

Little Dragons

All young people have a dragon ready to be released and let them fly as they learn the physical and social skills to be a success in life.

5 to 7 yr olds.   This class builds upon the basic we taught in the Jr Athletes program. At this level the focus is more about athletic skills , though social skills are always part of our martial arts program.  More emphasis is placed on martial arts skills, punching and kicking.

Youth Classes

Young athletes desire to become exceptional, be recognized for their efforts, be part of the team, not just a bench warmer. Our beginner program teaches physical, social and leadership skills. Kids deserve to be taken seriously. (click here for more info)

7 to 14 yr. This fast paced fun class is designed to help the young athletes learn basic karate skills, including all the athletic skills involved with martial arts, balance, right brain left brain skills, hand to eye coordination, spatial awareness. Focusing more on personal progress and accountability, we strive to help our athletes at this level to be a success in the dojo, in school and at home. The young athletes is exposed to basic karate forms, sparring skills, self-defense and leadership training. Unless approved by the chief instructor all students begin as a white belt.

Youth (Intermediate & Advanced)

7 to 14 yr. this class is the next level developed for students who have achieved the level of green belt, 6th kyu and above. The Intermediate/ Advanced program takes the karate training to higher levels , with a consideration towards serious training to achieve a Black Belt. It’s a blast and challenging too!!

Weapons Training

You can finally be your own super hero. Requires all your brain be present.

Kobudo, the study of traditional hand held weapons. Considered to be a perfect compliment to ones regular karate training , this  weapons program involves staff (bo), tonfas, nunckuka , short staff (jo), sai. A very structured class is only open to students, both adult and youth, who have reached the karate rank of 7kyu, full orange belt. Safety and absolute control are primary skills. Some padded weapon units are part of the curriculum.

Adults

Do you want to stay in shape, have a supportive, motivating group to work with , learn new techniques and have fun?  The adult program makes you work hard and makes you smile and have fun. This mixed level group meets twice a week. Check it out.

Competition Training

The thrill of victory, bittersweet of defeat, the camaraderie and support you get from training  hard together, there is nothing like it.

This class is the best! High pace, high energy work to prepare for competitive karate local, national and possibly international. The focus is on fitness, fast pace drills and strategy. The class also includes collaboration with coaches and officials. And sometimes we don’t wear karate uniforms for this class.
